Clinical Progeny Clinical provides you with a robust pedigree drawing tool, and the means to manage pedigree and individual data through a secure and easy to use application interface. It also integrates basic sample management (comprehensive sample tracking available only through LIMS) making it ideal for family-based studies. This license provides access to the Pedigrees, Individuals, Samples and Fields areas of the software.
Data Sheet The data sheet offers a fully customizable view of pedigree, individual, sample and marker data. Three data sheet modes are available to an administrative user: data entry (allows you to input data for the fields), form design (allows you to add data fields and manipulate the look of your data sheet) and tab mode (allows you to set the order in which the [Tab] button takes you from one data field to the next).
Data Spreadsheet Data Spreadsheets are used to provide a column view for each data field you include in the spreadsheet. By default the spreadsheet will populate data for the fields selected for all individuals, pedigrees, samples or markers in your database. The items populated can be sorted A-Z by any column and you can configure complex queries to show only the items that meet certain criteria.
Date Functions Acceptable date functions include DAY, MONTH, YEAR, ect. Full listing can be found in the User Manual under "Computed Field Expressions#Numeric". To access this go to the main menu in Progeny and select Help | User Manual.
Field ID A unique ID number that gets automatically generated for each data field upon its creation. This number is unique across the entire database.
Global ID The global ID is a unique number that gets automatically generated for every individual in your database upon its creation. Unlike the UPN which is unique per pedigree, this number is unique across the entire database.
IDS The IDS or Individual Data Sheet is a customizable viewer for individual level data. Formats for data sheets can be designed to include data fields and added text on one or several tabs. Formats are generally folder specific, but they can be copied and applied to any other folder.
Import Module The import module refers to the import interface which allows you to import delimited text files to create or update samples, pedigrees and individuals.
Lab Progeny Lab provides you with tools to manage all of your genetic data including basic sample management (comprehensive sample tracking available only through LIMS), whole genome association, targeted genotyping and export analysis. This license provides access to the Samples, Markers, Genotyping, Analysis and Fields areas of the software.
License File Not to be confused with your license request file, which is created by you, your license file is a registered file sent to you by our registration service department. You will recieve this file immediately upon reception of your completed Registration Form, which can be found at www.progenygenetics.com/registration.html.
LIMS Progeny LIMS is a a fully customizable, multi-level sample inventory system that allows you to design precise sample tracking workflows that meet your labratory needs. Location, status and progress of your plates and samples are available at the click of a button to streamline your monitoring process. This license provides access to the Plates, Freezers, Workflows and Fields areas of the software.

Progeny Administrator The Progeny administrative account is associated with the "progeny" user ID. This default administrative ID is created along with the creation of each database. The default password for this account is "progeny".
Progeny Server The Progeny Server (or Progeny Server Configuration Utility) is used to create an open network connection to your Progeny database which is necessary for multi-user access. It also provides maintenance drivers and as well as an interface for interactive SQL. The server software requires a seprate installation from the client software and is compatible with Windows, Linux and Novell servers.

Sybase Central Sybase Central is the Progeny Server Configuration Utility that gets installed with the Progeny Server installation CD. It is a database management tool that is used to create database services and maintenacne your Progeny databases.
Table ID A unique ID number that gets automatically generated for each table upon its creation. They are unique across the entire database.
TDS The TDS or Table Data Sheet is a customizable viewer for table data. Formats for table data sheets can be designed to include data fields and added text on one or several tabs. Formats are specific for each table and cannot be applied to any other table.
Transaction ID This auditing term refers to a unique transaction number that is automatically generated each time an action is performed on a data field that has been marked for auditing.
Unique Identifier A system or custom data field which is unique per database and is used to uniquely identify each row of an import/export file with a specific sample, pedigree or individual. Commonly used system data fields are "Sample Name", "Pedigree Name"+"Folder" or "Global ID". Custom data fields may also be used, but it is recommended that you put a Unique Value validation on the field when it is created.
UPN UPN stands for Unique Pedigree Number. This number is automatically generated for each member of a pedigree upon its creation, and although the UPN is unique per pedigree it is not unique across the database.
User Name A user name, or user ID, is given for each user account in a database. These names are unique across each database and are used in combination with a secure password to log into each user's account.
Warehouse The warehouse, or data field warehouse, is perhaps the most widely used tool in the Progeny Software application. Whether you are formating spreadsheets, designing data sheets, running queries or selecting data fields for an import or export, the warehouse is the tool you will use to select those data fields. The warehouse is designed to replicate the folder structure you've set up in the FIELDS section of your database. NOTE: The fields you see in the warehouse may be limited to the data fields available for any given section of the software. For instance, you can only see marker data fields from inside the marker data sheet.
XML XML files are used to export and import entire pedigrees and associated data to an external file. These files can be exported and imported back into the same database or from one database to another.
