I want to import a table we have with information about samples. Though, the samples don't exist in Progeny, so they are not going to match anything pre-existing in the database. I would like for them being created. Is this possible? Or do I have to create them first one by one and then import the data?

I know that you can change the proband arrow in the properties of each pedigree, but is there a way to change it to a default UL position for every pedigree in a folder? It's very frustrating to have to change each time I add a pedigree. Thanks!

It seems that the one-click add feature in Progeny 8.1 doesn't work for pedigrees that already exist. It works fine for creating new pedigrees but not for existing pedigrees.

Hi.

I have two issues with BRCA analysis in Progeny8.

1- There is an issue with risk calculation using my wired web connection at work with a proxy server (it works perfectly at home and using a wireless internet connection). I contacted my Informatics department and they allowed access to the web address http://bayesmendel.dfci.harvard.edu/risk/ without going through the firewall, but still no success. It is not evident in the program menus how to set up a proxy in Progeny. I think that Progeny8 has a problem to access the internet via a proxy server that did not existed with Progeny7, because when I start the program not even the Progeny logo and the banner appear in the login window. This does not happen with Progeny8 when I use the laptop at home and it did not happen before with Progeny7 at work. Any help with this?

2- I have tested the web risk calculation (using my private wireless internet access) and it works fine for calculating the mutation probability. However, the disease risk and mutation probability calculation is the same irrespective of indicating in the BRCA tab whether or not a mutation has been found in the family. This works correctly in CaGene. It seems like the information in the fields "BRCA1 test results" and "BRCA2 test results" are not taken into account in the calculation. Is this being corrected?

Looking forward for your feedback, I send you my best regards,
Manuel

Hello,
I try to import data into table field using the "Global ID" as unique ID
I met a problem when I try to import the data.
after I click import button, I check “import into tables only” box, then click OK.
A window “import cancelled” pop up, say “no tables were found in this spreadsheet, please check your settings.”

Do you know how to solve the problem? May I need to setting something before I try to improt data into table field?
Thanks,

Hello,

I'm new to use Progeny.

I have a big table which contents 10 text fields and more than 2,000 rows.
There are two fields existing in current Progeny DB. old_field1 and old_field2. The values of old_field1 + old_field2 are unique.
The other 8 fields are new_field1 ..... new_field8. The 8 new fields need to be added in Progeny DB.

The aim is based on the values of old_field1 and old_field2 to determine the other 8 new fields.
The logical is: if old_field1=value1 and old_field2=value2, then new_field1=value3 ..... new_field8=value10.

First, I tried to create 8 computed fields to handle new_field1 ..... new_field8. Then add the computed field definition in. But, I found the definition window cannot handle those many expressions.

Then second, I tried to create a lookup table field to store the table. When I tried to import my big table into the file using lookup table maintenance, the name of the lookup table become the first column. I don't know if it is correct.

Now, I stop and have no idea how to deal with this data.

Do you know where the problem is and how to solve that? May be the lookup table is a way to solve the problem, but don’t know how to use it in DB yet.

Thanks,

When I had this field to a Individual data spreadsheet all patients appear with "Invalid DateTime" instead of their respective IPO-number, so I am not able to export the data from this field. This strange because this is a text field. Any help? Thanks.

We experience problems with saving pedigrees when deleting an individual P8. This problem always occurs when I delete an individual in an existing pedigree. When I click on 'save' and then 'close tab' (after deleting an individual) it doesn't save anything and it doesn't close the pedigree. I don't have this problem when adding an individual or changing something in the IDS. It only occurs when we delete an individual in an existing pedigree.

When a number (including 0) is entered in B, C and D fields, the computed field shows the correct value. When B, C or D is left blank, the computed field is also blank. Fields B, C and D are not required fields and will not always be filled; why won't the computed field populate when B, C or D is blank?

I noticed that with the upgrade to Progeny 8 it isn't possible anymore to have computed fields that uses summary fields. We have used this kind of computed fields a lot in Progeny7. We made some useful algorithms for all kind of questions like risk profiles. Now in Progeny8 all this computed fields show 'Bad Calculation'. You can imagine that we are not so happy with this change, because it took a lot of work to make this algorithms work. Building up the computed field again in Progeny 8 seems to be not possible, because not able to use summary fields. I hope this can be solved, because for our clinic this would be a reason to go back with Progeny7.

I'm a new user to Progeny 8, and am still getting comfortable with how the program works. I have two questions regarding formatting of the pedigree.

1 - Is there a way to have the program automatically indicate a deceased individual (line through symbol) if you complete the field for "date of death" or "age at death"? I understand that you can set certain validation settings; however I don't see where you can alter the symbol's appearance based on a particular answer on and individual data sheet.

2 - Is there a way to make the properties settings for an individual pedigree consistent among all pedigrees. For example, I prefer that "force father to left" is checked for every pedigree I enter. I can individually go and check that box in each new pedigree, but I would like to be able to have that as a standard setting. Same goes for adding text to a pedigree. For example, I would like to indicate in the bottom corner the name of our institution.

Thank you!

I finally understood something important. In the lab where I work the database has been handled by many different people and I was often reported the usual problem that the "Individual name" field was not the same as the "Patient ID" field and that sometimes this was assigned by Progeny. Many users thought the "Individual name" could not be changed despite the fact that some "Individual name"s did not make any sense. The root problem is that, when you add an individual from a pedigree's tab, Progeny assigns automatically an "Individual name" that is related to the "UPN" of the pedigree rather than just asking the user input for the new individual. I think a much better behavior would be to ask the user for the "Individual name" field while suggesting the default field. Assigning "Individual name"s without the user's notice can complicate things quite a bit. This complaint goes together the fact that fields like "Individual name", "Pedigree name", and "Gender" cannot be changed from the individual's tab without giving an explanation for why (though I understand that it would complicate the design quite a bit).

I am not experienced with Progeny, but I noticed that once you perform a query it is possible to jump to individuals and pedigrees by right clicking with the mouse on the row of the individual you are interested in. I could not find a way to do that from an individual's tab.

I have just recently started using Progeny 7 after a lot of work has been put into developing the database and the pedigrees. We are interested in digitizing a number of studies onto Progeny but we are running into a few issues such as the need to attach multiple scanned documents to an individual.

Using the Cancer Example from Demo as an example, what if we wished to attach images (scanned documents) of an individual's cancer(s) . One person in the pedigree may not have cancer while another could have multiple. Do we have to put in multiple fields into the data sheet and will that have to apply to each individual? If this is the case, can we alter the heading for each field to better describe what is being linked or shown?

Lastly, is this a reasonable, or feasible, route to take for trying to attach scanned records, documents, or images?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Greetings
I am about to start with Progeny for our organisation. Whilst I can see how to start afresh, I am looking for information on how to bring across some 7500 pedigrees with 180000 individuals from Cyrillic.
Importing from Cyrillic gives me just a pedigree outline without individual properties. Anyone been down this road??

If you have set up an individual data sheet to have all of the fields display a heading that is different from the field name is there any way to change back to showing the field name instead of the heading? The only way I see is to drag all of the fields from the warehouse again. We have a form that is set up like this and has a lot of additional text added so we don't want to start all over, but would like to see the actual names of the fields instead of the heading.

Greg M. Silverman on "Attributes for proband vs kindred"

Am wondering how flexible the data sheet design is. In particular, we have a questionnaire in which the proband has data attributes (i.e., fields) that the kindred do not, so is it possible to either bind a different data sheet to the proband than what we would bind to the kindred, or can we at least hide these attributes for individuals that are not a proband?

If this is not possible, then I assume our best option would be to enter these data outside of Progeny and then import the required data into Progeny so that we could create the desired pedigree?

Thanks in advance!

Can anyone on this forum enlighten me as to the advantages/disadvantages of encrypting the Progeny server database? We have sensitive patient information that we want to protect. Have other customers used an encrypted database with success? Have there been performance problems? If so, under what circumstances?
Thank you.

Is there any way to set rules on how or when data is entered into a field?

Examples:

-Answered "No" to breast cancer, so you should not be able to enter a diagnosis age
-Cannot save without entering certain fields
