When I try to add a new individual (for example: John) It appears the message "John was not added".
What should I do to fix that?

I agree, my colleagues who used the older version found that data entry was easier when the pedigree and spreadsheet could be tiled.

An option to select multiple individuals and change the vital status at one time would also be helpful.

In Progeny, you can click on the Indiv SS button on the toolbar to create a spreadsheet. I would recommend using the System Field, Global ID, in your spreadsheet in addition to the other fields that you wish to see. Then click Run. You will see one row per individual in this spreadsheet when it populates. You can now click the Export button on the toolbar to export the data out of Progeny. Save the data in text tab delimited form. This can be opened by Excel. Name the file and save it to your pc. Now you can open that file in Excel and manipulate the data. The file must be saved in the tab delimited format in order to import back into Progeny. In Progeny you can run the same spreadsheet again then click the Import button and select the file that you were working with. You will have 1 column (the global ID) that will match during the import, then it will dump the rest of the data based on your column order. After you have imported the file, you must click Save to save the changes. If you are not satisfied with the import, then you can close the spreadsheet to ignore the changes.

If you have questions specific to the data export/import that you are working with, feel free to send an email to support for more assistance!

Yes, there is a way to do this by creating a computed field. Keep in mind that since your assessment date will be in a table, the computed field MUST be added to the table as well. Otherwise, it will not work properly.

Create a new field. Name the field and select the type as 'Computed'.

The computed field expression will be similar to this:
DATE(MONTHS({Field}, 3))

Note; To get your {Field} name, you will need to drag the assessment date field to the computed field expression box.
Click 'Test' to make sure that the expression is OK. Then click 'Add'.

Now add this computed field to your table field. The 3 month date follow up date will automatically appear in the table for you to view.

HI

I wanted to create a field to rename the pedigrees in progeny

I have a set of nomenclature for such families (0001-X,0002-X,0003-X,.....0159-X)

but in cases whose family comes from a specific center, I want to rename

for example if the family (0003-X,0008-X,0022-X) have been the "center-one"

I name them in a new field as (0003-X = 0001-Y , 0008-X=0002-Y ,0022-X=0003-Y ...)

occurred to me to do so but that function does not calculate the maximum number of pedigrees or nº pedigrees that have the value "center one"

IF

{prueba\CENTER}='center one'

THEN

INSERTSTR(0,'-F',LEFT(MAX{Pedigree name},4)+1)

ELSE
''
ENDIF

Hello Betty,

You can generate initials in a computed field based off the data fields "First Name", "Middle Name" and "Last Name", for instance, with the following computed field structure:

             substring({Demographics\First Name}, 0, 1) + substring({Demographics\Middle Name}, 0, 1) +
substring({Demographics\Last Name}, 0, 1)

Simply substitute the fields above (i.e. {Demographics\First Name}) with your own data fields and the computed field will take the first character from each field.

Thanks for the question!

Hi,

An older version of Progeny would allow you to view a pedigree and data spreadsheet simultaneously. This made data entry much faster; name, age, dx, smoking status, whatever.

A new function that would be helpful would be the ability to select multiple individuals in the pedigree and change the vital status of all at one time.

Any chance of returning/adding these functions?

I currently have pedigrees created in Progeny, with peoples' names listed. Is there a way to create a field to just list these peoples' initials (rather than their full name)? If yes, is there a way to set-up the field so that it can take the full names to automatically generate the initials (instead of having to manually type in the intials of every single person on the pedigrees)? Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I guess a data dictionary feature "up front" would be useful.

However, If you already use MS Access or some other front end to link to the Progeny database, it is easy to output the st_datadictionary table to a query or report.

The user name drop down on the login screen will populate any of the user names that have been entered for that computer. It works much like the "populate old searches" feature for search engines. All you need to do is type in her user name and log in one time. After that, her user name should populate in the drop down.

If you are a LIMS user, the barcode will not be renamed if you rename the sample. You can create an action in the database to update the barcode in this instance.

As we move towards production, I am looking at transferring data back and forth from our internal db to Progeny via XML.

I was looking at the structure of the output XML from Progeny and am slightly confused as to how the data map to the fields. I looked through the schema as defined under the <Database> tag and nowhere is there a definition of mappings that says: "f35 data" maps to <FIELD fieldname="Address 1" fieldtype="text" tabid="Demographics\">

Thanks for your post Greg! It seems like you probably imported the diagnosis data into the flat field for diagnosis instead of the table field. All table field data must be imported in through the spreadsheet import. Only flat fields (those fields not in a table) are able to be imported into Progeny using the import module. If you have additional questions on your specific import, I would be happy to answer them via email.

I can also answer your SQL questions via email: support@progenygenetics.com

Mea culpa. The data did get imported. I was just accessing it through the Cancer History table. A direct query to Cancer Diagnosis showed it was there!

The second part of my question though is still open: Is there some kind of SQL interface outside of Progeny in which I can write SQL scripts to move data about?

Thanks again!
