Technical Information

  • Java Virtual Machine
You need a minimum of Java 5.0 to run Progeny Anywhere
  • Use Inside Applets
Progeny Anywhere can be used inside any application or applet. It is however important to note that the Progeny Anywhere makes use of local host resources and will therefore require that the necessary java security policy files be configured to ensure that the applet in which the control is used can run out of the sand box and hence is allowed to access local resources. This can often be achived through signing you applet using Java code signing certificates from Verisign or other provider.
  • Data Exchange With External Applications
Progeny Anywhere uses XML technology to exchange data with external applications. API methods may be used to pass pedigree data into or out of the control. The XML data may be contained in a file or may be passed as an XML string. The XML data is structured according to the specifications in the Document Type Definition available here
  • Data can also be exchanged using java beans components defined in the ProgenyAywhereCommonBeans library, the documentation of which is available here.
