How does it work?
The Anywhere control is embedded in your application allowing you to click a button that would call your data set and export the required parameters (family relationship data such as MotherID and FatherID) for drawing a pedigree. The data needs to be formatted to our XML specifications and fed to our control, resulting in a pedigree drawn on the screen. You can customize the look and feel of the pedigree by calling features available within the control, such as coloring icons etc...
What platforms are supported with the Anywhere control?
Progeny Anywhere is deployed as a JavaBean which will support any platform with Java 5 installed (Mac OSX, Windows, Unix, Linux, etc…).
What databases does it work with?
Any database will work. Since your data is exported to an XML string which then feeds our control, it doesn’t really matter where the XML string comes from as long as it conforms to our specs.
How is it priced?
Pricing is based on a single Development license and a per-seat Deployment license for each PC that will install the control. The software is licensed to either institutions or non-for-profits as well as commercial entities internally or for resale within their app.
Are the pedigree features the same as in the Progeny Products?
Yes, for the most part. Certain features in Progeny are a result of the integration with the database. However, there are only a few things you can’t do with the Progeny Anywhere control that you can do with Progeny.
What are some of the advantages/disadvantages of using Progeny Anywhere as opposed to the Progeny software products?
Progeny Anywhere is ideal if you already have a large investment in your current database and you have pedigree relationship data stored, such as MotherID, FatherID, etc... There is some programming work required in order to export the data from your database to the XML specs provided in our documentation. Because of all the work that has gone into perfecting the Anywhere control over the last 10 years, the cost to license the software is minimal compared to the cost of developing a pedigree control yourself.
What support comes with the product?
You have unlimited toll-free phone and email support as well as access to updates and New Releases of the software. You can continue to receive this support on a yearly basis by purchasing an annual subscription plan for the software.
